Spring has finally sprung and summer days are fast approaching. To ensure you have peace of mind going into the spring break, be sure to have planned ahead with your Bacs submissions to allow for Bacs Bank Holiday processing dates.

Bacs processing works on a 3-day cycle. This is known as the Bacs cycle, and goes as follows:

Day 1: Input Day                   Day 2: Processing Day                      Day 3: Payment Day

You need to send your file to Bacs two working days prior to the payment date (day 3). If you have any questions about this, please let us know – or maybe it’s time to consider BACS accredited training.

With Monday, May 27th being a bank holiday there is an extra ‘non-processing day’ after the weekend of the 25th & 26th of May. Make sure that you have scheduled all your direct debits and credits with this in mind. If you’re unsure of the date changes that you may need to make you can always get some extra help from a consultant, and also refer to our table below:

Payment Arrival Date Processing
Date
Latest Submission Date
Friday                         24th May Thursday                   23rd May Wednesday               22nd May
Tuesday                     28th May Friday                        24th May Thursday                    23rd May
Wednesday               29th May Tuesday                    28th May Friday                         24th May
Thursday                    30th May Wednesday             29th May Tuesday                      28th May

As always you can submit any Bacs files up to 30 days in advance; just remember if you do to ensure that the correct processing date is included in the file, and if you’re struggling with the processing of your direct debits and/or credits you can always use a Bureau to do the heavy lifting for you.

Finally, if you haven’t already, you can download the Bacs calendar for 2019 so you can better prepare and get the non-processing days in your calendar.

We wish you an enjoyable and relaxing Spring Bank Holiday weekend.
