Easter is fast approaching and this year we are still dealing with the added complication of “Covid Lockdown” with many people working remotely. This has meant that many are unable to access their usual systems and processes. Now more than ever therefore, it is vital to ensure you’ve planned ahead with your Bacs submissions and have allowed for Bacs extra non-processing dates over Easter.

Bacs processing works on a 3-day cycle. These days are known as:
– “Day 1: Input Day”
– “Day 2: Processing Day” and
– “Day 3: Payment day”.
You need to send your file to Bacs 2 working days prior to the payment date (day 3). If you have any questions about this, please let us know – or maybe its time to consider BACS accredited training.

This year with banks being closed on April 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th, the below table gives details of the latest dates you would need to submit your files to collect on the earliest possible dates.

Both Good Friday (2nd April) and Easter Monday (5th April) are bank holidays which means they are extra ‘non-processing days’. Make sure that you have scheduled all your direct debits and credits with this in mind. If you’re unsure of the date changes that you may need to make, you can always get some extra help from a consultant

Collection Date

Latest Submission Date

Thursday April 1st
Tuesday March 30th
Tuesday April 6th
Wednesday March 31st
Wednesday April 7th
Thursday April 1st
Thursday April 8th
Tuesday April 6th

As always you can submit any Bacs files up to 30 days in advance – just remember if you do to ensure that the correct processing or payment date is included. And if you’re struggling with the processing of your direct debits and/or credits you can always use a Bureau to do the heavy lifting for you.

Finally, if you haven’t already, you can download the Bacs calendar for 2021 so you can better prepare and get the non-processing days in your calendar.
